Another Idiot Reviewer of the Week

Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 3

I was originally going to stick with just books for this, but then I realize, there are idiot reviewers for every product out there and I don’t wish to shun perfectly good material just because it’s not a book. This time, we’re talking about Season 3 of the Clone Wars animated series on DVD.

Now, pretty much everyone knows that the Clone Wars is a prequel series to Star Wars: A New Hope. We also all know about the wonderful revelation at the end of Empire Strikes Back where Darth Vader is revealed to be Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker’s father. This was revealed in 1980. So, imagine my laughter when I saw this review:

“WHAT IS GEIRGE LUCAS THINKING BY MAKING A CARTOON OF “THE CLONE WARS?!!!” FOR THOSE OF US THAT SAW THE FIRST T3 MOVIES WHEN THEY CAME OUT IN THE 70S; WE KNOW THAT ANAKIN’S DARTH VADER!!! IN MY OPINION, LUCAS, JUST WANTED YET ANOTHER AVENUE TO MAKE MONEY!!! AS IF HE NEEDS MORE!!! THIS IS A CRUEL TRICK YOU PLAYED ON STAR WARS FANS!!!! NO I REALLY QUESTION LUCAS’S CREDIBILITY & MY “ALLEGIANCE!!”!!!!”

First of all, any reviewers out there reading this please, please, PLEASE don’t write an entire review in all caps. It makes you lame as a reviewer. A few spots with all caps is fine to stress something but the entire review? It just makes you come off as a whiny little brat. I’m not sure who “GEIRGE LUCAS” is, but George Lucas, creator of the Star Wars franchise sanctioned a whole bunch of Clone Wars era novels and this animated series because people have been interested in it since it was mentioned back in 1977 for A New Hope. It’s called supply and demand. A very basic concept in business they teach to fifth graders, so I’m not confident in this person’s level of education.

Just wanted another avenue to make money? Um, yeah. He’s a businessman. I’m wondering why so many people want to bash someone for trying to make money. In modern days, it’s kind of a necessity and if you’re good at it, and you have a product people want, does it really make sense to say “Well, I know you all want this, but I’d be making money and that’s just wrong”? Wake up. Lucas’s credibility is not in question just because he released a product people wanted. If no one wanted it, it wouldn’t have lasted past the first season.

Oh, and “CAME OUT IN THE 70S”? Only one of them came out in the 70’s. That’s it. Just the first one (which is actually the fourth one but hey, who’s counting). “WE KNOW THAT ANAKIN’S DARTH VADER!!!” Um, I don’t think the point of this series is to reveal Anakin’s fate. It’s to show his past. Hence it being a prequel. Seriously, people should need a damn license to write reviews.

  1. Picky, picky.
No, a good post and a possible lesson to the self-aggrandising pseudo intellectuals who think that it’s their duty (and right) to inform we mere mortals that their opinion is the only possible one.

  2. Love it!!!

I especially love the line about needing a license to write a review. This person obviously had no clue, apparently not bothering to look at the back to see that it was indeed a “cartoon”…I’m not familiar with animated books or movies, but I certainly would have made a point to look at the back of the product to see what it was about. To say that Lucas’ credibility was in question and that he made it just for the money….I say, hell yeah to making more money. Why the heck not?

This was a great post. Thanks Mike!

  3. Lovely posts, Mike. Please keep them coming. They help me remember how important it is to engage the brain before writing.

  4. Maybe English is his second language Mike, give the guy a break. He has no money and lives in a hovel with seven or eight other family members sharing the same threadbare blanket and the internet cafe he frequents probably gave him twenty minutes for his coin. Hate to think what would happen if he did have money! Something to be thankful for….
    Thanks for making me smile!
